we booked merlin cottage for a midweek break, and was not disapointed with our choice. it had everything you could ask for in it and more,spacious,relaxing,well-equiped. it was our first time in northumbland, and beaconhill. our children had a wonderful time and had lots to keep them busy. they want to know when there going back, hopefully soon

Our first visit, and highly recommended. We stayed in Quarry - very spacious, excellent views and extremely well-equipped. The open fire was very welcome as the snow arrived!

The kids loved the pool, and the play area. We particularly enjoyed the Laconium Room - warmed beds overlooking the snowy hills in the distance - very relaxing.

We ventured to Craster (kippers), Druridge Bay (great beach), Cragside, Alnwick (gardens, and spectacular castle open when it's not February...) and Beamish - all within very easy reach.

An ideal place for a family holiday. Thanks to Alun for a warm welcome, very helpful local knowledge and advice, and a great week. We look forward to next time.

This has been our second visit to Beacon Hill. The first time we stayed in Quarry which was lovely and spacious with fantastic views. This time we stayed in Beech, which again was lovely. The facilities, as ever, were fantastic, just sorry I didn't get round to having a treatment this time. We all enjoyed Kate's homemade meals, especially the beef in beer!
We've had another wonderful time at Beacon Hill and would like to thank Alun for a fabulous few days (certainly not enough), and also for your understanding and kindness regarding our previous booking - very much appreciated indeed.
Cheers, xx

Our 8th consecutive year, this time in Quarry. As usual, cottage up to the standard we've come to expect. It's nice to be able to rely on that, rather than arrive somewhere and getting disappointed.

We didn't break any new ground this time, except for a train trip to Newcastle. That was interesting and we'll do it again, having seen the bits that we don't need to see again - we can concentrate on the museums and so on. Usual visits to Wallington, Morpeth, Alnwick gardens, Cragside, Corbridge and so on - and, of course, Meg's Lake on a wet day with hamburgers in tinfoil. Didn't manage the HP trail this year - we just ran out of time (even though we had 2 weeks!)

Next summer seems a long way away; however, it's something to look forward to.

Stayed in Merlin Cottage in the first week of July 2009. The cottage was very private and with everything you would need. No need to think 'have we brought the tin opener', etc. The kitchen was a dream. The rooms and living area were spotless, and no expense has been spared. We are originaly from Northumberland and did not know Beacon Hill existed, and we could have been anywhere. A country retreat, no street lights, no noise. The spa and leisure facilities put icing on the cake. A relaxing week to say the least, staff very helpful and friendly, which you would expect from Northumbrians! It was great to sit on the patio at dusk and watch the barn owls hover. Wish we could have stayed for a year, so we could read all the books on the living room unit. Thanks Alun.
