Eating in MorpethThese are the places that I go to on a fairly regular basis and they are all good in their own way. Henris01670 516205This Morpeth stalwart was taken over in August 2007 by the couple who own the Black Door in Newcastle which is great news as that is a superb place. There will be few changes until January 2008 but I am expecting the reliablity to improve. Downstairs has a tourist menu and sncaks are available... the restaurant upstairs is elegant and the food here can be very good. Café No. 5A new little Italian bistro and I think it is excellent. Last orders at 7 pm so it is really a place for lunch or an early evening meal, or just for a coffee. Tandoor Mahal, Morpeth Tel 01670 512420An excellent Indian restaurant. Good value. We are regular visitors here and I recommend the Tandoori King Prawn and the excellent yellow mint sauce. On Thursday nights you can have pompadons with spices, any starter, any main course with rice, ice cream and coffee with a glass of wine for £12...consequently it is very busy. Gianni's Pizzeria, Morpeth. Tel 01670 511547A good place to go with children, especially during Happy Hour, 5.30pm-6.30pm. Good value and packed with children early on. This is not a gourmet experience, but we like it and the food is typically Italian and it is fun! Mulan, Morpeth Tel 01670 502288Opened in August 2007 a very smart chinese restaurant. Take away meals before 8 pm Monday to Thursday an Sunday only. I have eaten here twice and thoroughly enjoyed it. Places To Stop All Over The CountyAnglers Arms, Weldon Bridge Tel - 01665 570655An old coaching inn with a good atmosphere. Restaurant and bar meals are available. It is a very pleasant place to pop out for a pint whilst your husband is preparing supper. Bar meals can be very good. Tankerville Arms, Eglingham Tel - 01665 578444A long time favourite with visitors in the north of the county.. Linden Hall, Longhorsley Tel - 01670 516611Luxury country house hotel. Expensive and very plush. No children under 10 in main dining room. Cook and Barker, Newton-on-the-Moor Tel - 01665 575234Very popular with Beacon Hill guests. The lunchtime bar meals are excellent. They now offer limited bar meals in the evening. Essential to book for restaurant meals. Shoulder of Mutton, LonghorsleyConvenient for an evening drink. Many guests seem to enjoy it and it is the closest pub to Beacon Hill. Linden Pub, LonghorsleyTurn left in the village and go north for one mile. Recently re decorated. Mixed reports! Granby, LongframlingtonVery reliable, good quality bar food. No children under 15. Hermitage, WarkworthVery popular with the locals. Wooden Doll, North ShieldsHigh above the Fish Quay, has a superlative view over the Tyne and out to sea, but get there early for a window seat. Jolly Fisherman, CrasterFamous for its fresh-cut crab (and other) sandwiches. Not a favourite of mine - it is a missed opportunity. Old Ship, SeahousesA real old nautical pub. One of my favourites; no children in the bar. Good sandwiches and really authentic. Dipton Mill, near HexhamHome cooked food, lunchtimes only. Opens noon seven days a week. Embleton Hall Hotel, LongframlingtonDon't be put off by the elegance of this place. They are very happy to serve bar food to the scruffiest of patrons! Manor House Inn, Carterway Heads, near Shotley Bridge on the A68In a class of its own - inspired cooking at reasonable prices. Shepherd and Shepherdess, BeamishComfortable and welcoming, but you must get there early in summer months to get a seat. Rose and Crown, SlaleyNew owners have transformed this place. Red Lion, AlnmouthQuaint little pub down a side lane. Try the Turf and Surf if you like seafood and garlic. Lord Crewe, BlanchlandAn old monastery, the bar has a stone-vaulted ceiling. Black Bull, EtalA nice clean pub with a friendly welcome and thatched roof in idyllic village. At the end of the Heatherslaw Light Railway. There are pubs all over the county and many are now catering for the more sophisticated visitor that now visit Northumberland. |
