A luxury holiday house in the glorious Cheviots with the coast, Durham, Lindisfarne and a clutch of castles and stately homes nearby has to be a winner.

Add a large indoor swimming pool, a gym, beauty salon, a 20-acre wildlife conservation area, a large fishing lake and pony riding and you see why Alun and Clare Moore win so many awards.

When I stayed with them 13 years ago, they had just started up with two converted granaries. A spinal injury had put paid to Alun's working the 360-acre farm, so the resourceful pair turned to tourism.

Now they have 12 architect-designed traditionally-built holiday houses, all top-rated. Flowers and wine greet new arrivals while cordon bleu meals, if ordered in advance, will be in the freezer.
