Arrival

Upon arrival at Beacon Hill you come up a 100 metre tarmac drive.
The cottages are dotted around extensive gardens in six groups. The maximum distance between any of the cottages is 200 yards. All of the cottages, with the exception of the Courtyard Cottages and North Granary, South Granary, Stable Cottage and Wood Cottage, can have a car taken to the door of the cottage and parked there. There is a dropping off point for the Courtyard Cottages next to a path paved in flat sandstone. The car park for these cottages is 35 yards from the drop off point.
Parking is outside the cottages in all the cottages with the exception of the four cottages above.
The whole of Beacon Hill Farm is on a slope as is most of Northumberland. As a result, there are many different levels surrounding the cottages. We have tried to describe these to you below to allow you to judge if we can meet your access requirements.

Curlew Cottage, Kestrel Cottage and Merlin Cottage are graded Mobility M2 in the Visit Britain Accessibility Grading Scheme. Willow Cottage, Larch Cottage, Oak Cottage and Elm Cottage were built to Accessibility Grade 2, a standard that has been superseded by the Mobility Scheme. Notwithstanding that these four cottages have met a recognised standard, are on one level with ramped access, no steps and ample space. They have often been used by wheel chair users staying with able-bodied friends.

The Spa

The Spa is accessible by wheelchair and although the WC is not accessible one  can get a wheelchair to the door and it is simple to  transfer to the WC itself.
Once in the Spa, there are no steps in the Spa itself although there is one step at the door way into the Gym. The swimming pool has a Roman end with stepped access to the shallow end. There is a hand rail placed centrally in the Roman end allowing entry to the pool using either right hand or left hand support from the rail.

The Jacuzzi has a wooden step to aid entry and there is also a hand rail to assist with this process.
The steam room and sauna have wide doorways and there is level entry to both rooms.
