Summer Cycling Breaks In Northumberland

Cycle Tourism

If you’re considering a cycling break (can you really call it a break?!) then you can do no better in terms of location than Northumberland. Well that’s what our guests tell us and we’ve certainly seen a rise in cycling tourism here at Beacon Hill Farm. Many of our cottage guests bring their bikes and take advantage of our superb rural location to explore some of the UK’s most scenic cycling routes.

Here in Northumberland there really is something for all ages and all abilities. If you’re part of the so called ‘mamil’ group (middle aged men in lycra) and road biking is your preference, you can explore quiet rural lanes as well as steep and testing climbs as you head north west towards the Scottish border. If mountain biking is your thing then the Deadwater Trail at Kielder Forest offers some of the best single track trail in England. There’s plenty for the younger ones too and families often make the short trip to the Northumberland coast for some gentle riding, a splash and a paddle in the waves and of course plenty of stops for ice-cream!

There are literally too many routes to mention but some of the most famous are The Sandstone Way and the Coast and Castles routes. There are also an increasing number of cyclo-sportives and you may want to take on the Wooler Wheel Classic or the Great North Bike Ride, with Beacon Hill Farm being ideally located in terms of accommodation for both events. Of course after a hard days cycling it would be nice to relax those muscles and unwind while recounting the day’s activities and that’s where our facilities really do come into their own.

Relaxing Spa

Our luxury spa facilities are freely available to all of our holiday cottage guests and consist of a heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and laconium. After a good day of pushing pedals you really will be able to feel the miles wash away as you flit between sauna, steam and bubbles. If you are putting some serious miles in and have neither the time or inclination to cook, then there are many good pubs and restaurants only a few miles away in Morpeth.

Groups

To find out more about using one of our holiday cottages as a base for your cycling break, give us a call and we’ll be more than happy to help you organise your trip. For cycling groups you may wish to book adjoining cottages in which case you can view a map of the estate which will help you to choose the most appropriate properties.
