Fishing at Meg's Lake and Beyond

MegMeg's Lake is nearly two acres has the most wonderful setting to the west of the farm. We stock Meg's Lake annually with rainbow trout and they thrive in the superb water quality. Meg's Lake is only available to visitors to the self catering cottages at Beacon Hill. The views are superb and this is a great place to picnic or barbecue. There are stone seats around the lake which are ideal for the non fishing partner to watch their partner catch some supper! Meg's Lake is fly only and we ask that guests put back all their catch per one for the table whilst on holiday.

We have arranged the services of an excellent fishing coach:

Gary Proudlock

"I have lived and fished in Northumberland all of my life. In the beginning I used to use split cane, green heart and Hardy Rods and sometimes still do. I have also progressed through all of the fashions up to today's high tech carbon fibre offerings."

Meg"In that time I have learned that it is not about the tools but about the person who catches the fish; it is about observation, technique and about having an enquiring mind."

If you are an absolute beginner I will teach you the basics of this absorbing hobby. For the more experienced angler I can help you get that extra bit of distance or learn a new technique."

"Women in my experience learn to fly fish very quickly and I find it refreshing to see more women taking up the sport."

"I am available to give one to one lessons on Meg's Lake which is one of the most tranquil beautiful bits of water that I have fished on. It is excellent for teaching beginners, especially youngsters as there are no overhanging branches to get tangled up on."

If you are keen to try different waters whilst on holiday, there are a lot of options. There is fabulous fishing to be had in Northumberland and often you will be totally alone, more especially with river fishing; the price of fishing is very reasonable when one considers the quality of the waters and the landscape in which they are often set.
