Autumn & Winter Cottage Breaks

Autumn & Winter Cottage Breaks

Autumn & Winter breaks at Beacon Hill Farm are incredibly popular and there’s plenty to do whether you are looking to relax and unwind or whether you enjoy getting wrapped up and being out and about on those cold, crisp days. If it’s the latter, then of course you can look forward to returning to your warm and cosy luxury cottage that has everything you could possibly need.

Here is a short guide to just some of the things you could look forward to if you are staying with us during the Autumn & Winter…

Spa Days

Our luxury Spa facilities are open all year round and are just a short walk from the holiday cottages. For many of our guests this forms their daily routine, making full use of the Gym, Steam Room, Sauna, Jacuzzi and the Laconium Therapy Room which has four heated beds and offers wonderful views to the south. Not to mention the heated pool and the option to book a treatment in our Beauty Salon.

Winter Walks

Megs LakeOn the farm itself you can enjoy walks through our very own 20 acre wood where there is even a Harry Potter trail for the young ones. You can also enjoy a walk around Meg’s Lake which really is a beautiful location and is alive with colour in Autumn.
To the east you can quickly access the stunning Northumberland coast and there are endless beaches along which to enjoy a bracing walk. We are blessed with some of the finest coastline in the UK with large, uncrowded stretches of golden sand running for mile after mile. For a comprehensive list of beaches, see our separate beach guide.

To the west you will find Kielder Water & Forest Park, a superb option for a day out with plenty of activities for all age ranges. Kielder reservoir is a large man-made reservoir with surrounding forest where you can expect to encounter lots of local wildlife.

Head west also to Hadrian’s Wall for dramatic landscapes, stunning scenery and one of the regions most famous walks to take in the iconic tree at Sycamore Gap. More details of that walk can be found here within our guide to a day out at Hadrian’s Wall.

Dark Skies

ObservatoryWe are situated right on the edge of Northumberland International Dark Sky Park so there is no better place to enjoy the wonders of the night skies. We now have our very own observatory here on the farm and guests can freely use this tremendous facility. If adults or children want to learn more about our Universe then you can even book a visit to Kielder Observatory, a fantastic visitor attraction under the finest dark skies in England.
The Alnwick Garden

A firm favourite with our guests, there’s something for everyone at The Alnwick Garden and there are plenty of fun and interesting events taking place during the autumn and winter months. Alnwick Garden has an annual Halloween event that will appeal to all ages but is especially exciting for children. This year there is a Spooky Trail and Spook Zone for families with younger children and a Scare Zone for children aged 12 and over.
Other events include The Grand Lantern Parade, a magical procession of light and music from the garden and through Alnwick town as well as the Christmas Market which takes place on weekends from mid November. For children there is The Winter Trail and Crafts, a self-guided trail around the garden with clues left by the elves! All events and dates can be found at The Alnwick Garden website.

There are so many more things to see and do from our wonderful location. Travel north to Seahouses, Bamburgh or even to Edinburgh which is only 2 hours by car and a pleasant drive. Or venture south to Newcastle or Durham, both under an hour in the car from the Beacon Hill Farm. Of course sometimes it’s nice to simply get away and spend some quality time with family and friends at Christmas. Whatever your reason, you’ll find everything you need and more at Beacon Hill Farm for a Brrrr…illiant stay!
